Kardashian Sister Comes Out As ‘Autosexual’ – Here’s What It Means

Note: We are bringing back this story that first made headlines in March 2024.

Kourtney Kardashian Barker has ignited discussions about “autosexuality” after fans observed her lifestyle brand, Poosh, delving into the subject on its website. This concept, which revolves around being aroused by one’s own self-image and eroticism, was highlighted in a 2020 Poosh article that captivated fans, leading them to wonder if Kourtney is hinting at her own experiences.

The article opens with the question, “Are you autosexual?” and promptly responds, “Most likely, yes. In fact, most of us are, at least to some degree.” But what does it really mean to identify as autosexual?

To shed light on this, Poosh included insights from Casey Tanner, the founder of QueerSexTherapy, who described autosexuality as “a trait where one becomes aroused by engaging with their own erotic self.” Tanner elaborated that individuals can feel more sexually vibrant and self-assured when they perceive themselves as attractive. According to Tanner, autosexuality can manifest differently for each person, but it often involves self-appreciation that boosts self-esteem and can even enhance relationships.

One expression of autosexuality, Tanner notes, can be as straightforward as admiring your own reflection or dressing up for personal enjoyment rather than for others. For some, this might also encompass visualizing or even engaging with their own scent in a way that stirs desire. Tanner emphasizes that even routine self-care practices, such as wearing lingerie to feel good for oneself or dancing in front of a mirror, can embody elements of autosexuality. Many individuals may not recognize that these actions, particularly when performed without a partner, fall within this category—and Tanner reassures that it’s completely natural and can actually enrich one’s sexual experiences, rather than detract from them.

Interestingly, the article also addresses the stigma surrounding autosexuality, highlighting that many individuals are reluctant to accept it due to concerns about seeming self-centered or overly preoccupied with their looks. Nevertheless, Tanner emphasizes that accepting autosexuality can actually enhance a person’s relationship with themselves and their partner by promoting self-assurance and comfort in their own skin.

Kourtney, who tied the knot with Travis Barker of blink-182 last year, is recognized for challenging norms and celebrating her distinctive style. Recently, the celebrity duo faced backlash for a Halloween decoration that some deemed too risqué for a family environment. The display showcased skeletons in suggestive poses, leading to varied responses online. One user questioned, “That skeleton position? Really?” while another stated, “You have children, and you think this is suitable? Tacky.”

The couple, who welcomed their son Rocky earlier this year, are known for their public displays of affection and for living life unapologetically on their own terms. Whether Kourtney aimed for the Poosh article to convey personal insights or simply to inform fans about the concept, one thing is clear: the Kardashian-Barker lifestyle continues to captivate and engage their audience.
