Dad Calls For Teacher’s Firing Over Comment She Wrote On Son’s Math Homework

Note: We are reissuing this story, which first made headlines in April 2019.

A father initiated a petition to have his son’s teacher dismissed due to a remark she made on the boy’s math homework.

Chris Piland, the father, was outraged upon seeing the teacher’s feedback on his child’s assignment. His son, Kamdyn, received harsh criticism for his performance.

The teacher assigned the second-grade students, equivalent to year 3, the task of solving as many subtraction problems as possible from a list of 600 within a three-minute period.

Piland, a resident of Pennsylvania, was furious about the teacher’s comment and decided to create a petition for her dismissal. The petition has collected over 15,000 signatures.

He shared a picture of the homework, captioning: “My son Kamdyn’s teacher has been so rude to him and me all year. He comes home with this, and I am extremely frustrated that someone would write this on a child’s work. Such great motivation.”

According to Chris’ online post, the school board is looking into the matter.

“Thanks to all the efforts and support from the dedicated individuals who signed and shared this petition, I’m pleased to announce that the teacher in question is currently under investigation by the Valley View school board,” he stated.

Many were appalled by the teacher’s actions. Commenters expressed:

“I don’t even have a child, and this is disturbing to me. This is so incredibly unprofessional and just wrong.”

“No teacher should have the right to write such terrible comments on a young child’s work.”

Rose Minniti, the school superintendent, commented: “This is a personnel matter, and the outcome will not be determined by social media. It will be based on the facts and evidence. As always, we will strive to do what’s best for the students and what is necessary for the employee.”
